Light Music as displayed at the Tate Modern, as part of The Tanks: Art in Action programme, is an installation comprising of two 16mm film projectors placed at either end of a darkened, hazy room. These project an array of abstract black and white rectangles, created by Rhodes drawing directly onto the film with ink. These squares do not only serve as visual patterns, but are also read by the projector as audio, filling the room with humming electronic sounds.
The projectors are placed on the floor, so it's almost impossible for a viewer to walk around the piece without becoming the subject of the work. The silhouettes of the audience create the piece; the audience is, in a sense, both the viewer and the artist.
