Having been to very few galleries outside of London before, the prospect of visiting so many galleries in another city was very exciting. Staying in Liverpool for just six hours, we managed to visit six galleries/museums and saw various other exhibits around the city.
I did find the work I saw to be quite different from that in London. I'm not quite sure whether this was a coincidence, or just down to the nature of the Biennial Event, but I felt that quite a large proportion of the work was either two dimensional or video based. In comparison to London, installation, performance and sculptural work took up a much smaller proportion of gallery space.
Another notable difference was the gallery spaces themselves. From the old post office that housed the Bloomberg: New Contemporaries, to the interior architecture of the Cunard Building and the bright pink walls of the Tate Liverpool. The galleries in Liverpool were very different to the typical white cube style.
