Seeing Jonas Mekas' exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery really made it clear to me what I'm inspired by. I was far more drawn to the film works than the photographic ones. I enjoy watching something progress in front of me, with some sort of narrative, (abstract or otherwise) I suppose I just like works that change over time.
Whilst flicking through Gene Youngblood's Expanded Cinema I came across a section written on video artist Nam June Paik, and found this quote which, for me, really seems to sum up the affinity I have for time-based work, that I have somewhat struggled to explain myself.
